The Skamania School District received grant funding to pay for a building indoor air quality assessment totaling just over $7,600, Superintendent Katie Chavarria told the board on Feb. 18. Apollo Contractors submitted a proposal for the assessment, and because the project amount exceeded the threshold requiring board approval, the board voted to proceed.
Board Member Lisa Young questioned the value of another contractor review given the district’s acknowledged HVAC problems, saying, "we already know we have a HVAC system that doesn’t work and she doesn’t see the value of having another company involved." Chair Donald Collins responded that while staff knows the system is underperforming, more data would be helpful. Rowdy LaFevers moved to pursue the assessment; Donald Collins seconded. The motion passed with one nay.
