He said an oversight left the debt service fund short by roughly $733 and that the district received two buses while only one had been budgeted, creating an overspend in the transportation vehicle fund.
On the debt service discrepancy, Drew said, "So we're $733," and explained that because of the state accounting adjustments the district plans to ask for more capacity than the bare shortfall so it will not need to call a special meeting if another expense emerges. He added, "So I'm gonna ask for $2,000," for debt service authority and later said he would request roughly $30,000 of extra capacity in the transportation vehicle fund to allow for unexpected repairs or costs tied to buses. The district will present these extension requests at the Aug. 19 public hearing and asked the board to review the draft extension when staff circulates it.
Board members asked for clarity about OSPI procedures that affect how much authority the district needs to request; Drew explained the practical effect that previously overspent funds reduce available capacity and the district must account for that when asking for extensions.
