Resident urges quick action on dangerous Central Ave/5th Ave intersection after repeated crashes

Rosaria, who lives at 258 Central Ave, spoke during public comment to request a traffic-safety evaluation of the intersection of Central Ave and 5th Ave. She said the location has repeated close calls and several vehicles have struck her house or driven through her yard during the nine years she has lived there. Rosaria also said tractor-trailers frequently cannot complete the turn without using the sidewalk, posing a danger to pedestrians and property.
"I'm here tonight because I'm asking the borough to take action to improve the safety of this intersection before someone is injured or killed," Rosaria said, urging the council to consider measures including a three-way stop, speed-feedback signs and restrictions on oversized truck routes. Council members and the mayor acknowledged the concerns and asked borough staff and police to review sightlines, parking restrictions and possible traffic-calming measures.
