Hampton council presents plaques to volunteers who helped preserve Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind history

During a ceremonial session, the council presented plaques to community volunteers and museum staff recognized for research, outreach and cleanup work related to preserving the history of the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind.
Brian Marquisey of the city’s marketing department read the names of community honorees including Kenyatta Fox, Darren Gillis, Catherine Northin, Donna Stone, Joan Weaver and Dorothy West, and museum staff including Beth Austin, Marie Jones, Anna Hammond, Jonathan McBride, Monica Mahird, Chona Thomas and Gabe Diaz. Mayor Gray closed the program by thanking the volunteers and staff. "You've done a great job," Mayor Gray said as he praised their collective work.
Marquisey told the council the recognition was intended to honor how community members and staff worked together to research, collect stories and ensure the museum exhibit is accessible to a broad audience.
