Piperton board reviews park grant renderings as Mid‑South payout arrives

The Piperton Parks and Recreation Advisory Board heard an update July 14 on a grant-funded park project after Public Works Director Richard Mills said the municipality received its first payout from the Mid‑South Development District, which is managing the grant. Mills said the Renaissance Group has sent a $7,500 contract to produce renderings and color options for restrooms, pavilions and an amphitheater.
Mills described sample designs and dimensions: a pavilion roughly 20 by 30 feet and an amphitheater shell about 17 by 35 feet with side rooms for electrical and sound equipment. "We did get our first payout in from Mid‑South Development District who is managing this grant," Mills said, and he added that the Mayor requested renderings showing restroom columns more closely resembling the Piper House. Board members discussed roof color samples and materials, and Mills said DT Designs will provide a budget for options the board would like to see illustrated.
Mills flagged next steps including obtaining additional amphitheater renderings and confirming grant compliance before committing to construction. Vice Mayor Mike Binkley asked for an expert opinion on acoustics and sound quality; Mills said staff will pursue that and return updated renderings to the board.
