Rachel Anderson, administrator for the Salt Lake Valley Law Enforcement Service Area, said the Unified Fire Authority needs a phased tax increase to pay for station upgrades, capital replacement and rising personnel and construction costs. "The funds are needed to upgrade stations, maintain the increasing costs of service, keep appropriate levels of staffing, and maintain the minimum account balance required by law," Anderson said during a workshop presentation.
Chief Dominic Burchett and UFA CFO Tony Hill joined Anderson to review financial analysis supporting the request and said the multi‑year approach reduces the immediate burden on taxpayers while addressing long‑term capital and staffing needs. Council members heard the presentation in workshop session; no formal council action on the UFA budget was taken at the October 15 meeting.
