The mayor and the ward councilmember described outreach to nearby residents and reported support during a town-hall style meeting; the applicant agreed to a conservation easement covering a portion of the lot and to other measures intended to preserve green space. "They decided to basically... give the city a conservation easement to where that area will remain a natural setting... and nothing will ever be built in that area," the mayor said while summarizing discussions with neighbors.
One councilmember again raised master-plan consistency concerns but said the property's longitudinal lot configuration and the conservation easement were factors that led him to support the measure. The second-reading motion carried on roll call (recorded in the minutes as motion carries 5 to 1). The rezoning will be implemented under the conditions approved by council.
