Students say World Changers provided "safe haven" and leadership skills

Students offered personal testimony about how World Changers affected them. David Born, a Phoebus High School sophomore, said the program has been "a safe haven" and credited it with giving him skills and confidence to speak publicly after about 4½ years in the program: "It's a place where I can express myself and express the problems and advocate for to make a change." Ava Tanner and other students echoed that theme, saying the program helps youth make mistakes, learn from mentors and return to their communities better prepared to lead.
Speakers also noted mentorship and staff support: several students praised Michelle Simpson (program coordinator) and said Reagan Johnson and the Alternatives board support the young leaders.
