Johnson told council members that "Alternatives was founded in 1973, so we are 50 years plus strong," and that the agency served "over 3,000 children, youth, and families here in Hampton Roads," with the largest number served in the city of Hampton.
Students from the World Changers team then described how the program connects youth to leadership, prevention and community-engagement activities. Council members thanked the students and invited them and council representatives to the well for photos before adjourning the ceremonial session until 6:30.
