Resident urges traffic calming in Phoebus; city says counters placed and study underway

Richard Brown, a Phoebus resident, told council he is concerned about heavy speeding near Mellon Street and Muggler Bridge and asked the city to consider speed bumps or islands to protect children and neighbors. "I'm talking about cars going 45, 50 mile an hour," he said.
City Manager Bunting said the public-works director has already installed a traffic counter on Brown's street to gather data and that the city typically reviews counts before deciding on specific measures. "They install those counters on March 15. I'm sorry, March 20," the city manager said, adding that staff prefer the least invasive calming options and will engage the neighborhood after the traffic analysis is complete. Public-works director Jason Mitchell was identified as the staff lead who will share recommendations with council.
