Hampton joins Bloomberg American Sustainable Cities; city unveils I Team and short-term funding

Interim Assistant City Manager Wieson Walker said the city received "$120,000 in grants to support the work of the I Team and the city over 3 years" and a $230,000 implementation grant to develop a climate-action plan. Walker listed partners (PolicyLink, Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins, Natural Resources Defense Council, Delivery Associates) and identified pilot neighborhoods — Aberdeen Gardens, Briarwood Terrace and West Shell — as early focus areas.
City leaders introduced Chaz Anders as the I Team director and Demi Lashon Kalu as the civic designer. Kalu outlined planned engagement tools: weekly staff office hours, two public workshops per month, outreach to teachers, students and small-business owners, and a potential 0.333 FTE IT manager hire to support data and grant work.
