Mayor Gray says no sale agreement exists for The Woodlands Golf Course after consolidation study

Mayor Gray told the Hampton City Council that a recent consultant assessment recommended concentrating municipal golf operations at the Hampton Golf Course but that no sale of The Woodlands Golf Course has been approved or is under way.
The mayor said the city engaged the National Golf Foundation and Richard Mandel Golf Architecture to evaluate financial stability and sustainability of both courses. "There is no agreement done or in progress to sell The Woodlands Golf Course to Hampton University or any other entity," he said, repeating that no decisions have been made and inviting community input as council considers options. The study indicated upgrades to the Hampton Golf Course could accommodate existing rounds and that consolidating operations would likely be the most financially prudent choice for the city.
The mayor framed the issue as balancing fiscal responsibility with maintaining recreational opportunities and said council will continue the conversation with residents before taking further action.
