Accepting the proclamation, Gwen Lomax described the program's reading and STEM activities, outreach into schools and a community event at the Barnes & Noble in Hampton on March 1 at 11:30 a.m. “If you can read, you can teach yourself,” Lomax said, describing the program’s focus on front-loading early literacy, parent engagement and hands-on experiences. Mayor Gray thanked Lomax and other volunteers for their work encouraging literacy in the city.
