The City Council voted to merge the Customer Assistance Center with the Building Department effective July 1, 2026, a move Mayor staff framed as a step to streamline citizen calls and improve departmental coordination. The motion was introduced during the mayor’s communications and passed on a voice vote.
Mayor staff said the change will not alter phone numbers immediately but will modify the city’s call tree over time. “It’s just allowing us to streamline different departments moving forward going into the new budget,” the mayor’s representative said. Supporters said the consolidation is intended to reduce duplication and improve customer service; no members requested further study during the discussion.
The ordinance or administrative directive to effect the merger will be implemented administratively as part of the next budget cycle. The council approved the motion without recorded roll-call opposition; staff will provide implementation details through the mayor’s office before July 1.
