Taylor school Special Olympics plunge set for March 5 seeks 100 plungers, $10,000 goal

Marie Louise Kavner Radiger, transition teacher for the adult transition program at the career center, asked the council to publicize a Unified Special Olympics "plunge" at Taylor High on March 5. Kavner Radiger said the district’s goal is $10,000 and 100 plungers; she reported the campaign was at about $5,000 and 40 plungers at the time of the presentation.
Kavner Radiger described accommodations (divers and a shallow pool for safety, alternate activities for participants with mobility needs) and logistics: check-in begins at 7:45 a.m. and the plunge sequence starts at 8:15 a.m., with an estimated 30 minutes to process 100 participants. She asked council members to help spread the word, post posters and, where appropriate, donate. Councilmember Patz agreed to participate as a plunger and a member offered to sponsor $100.
The council voted to receive and file the presentation. Organizers said the event is restricted to Taylor High participants (ages 15 and up) with staff and DECA students assisting with photos and logistics. No city funding was requested at the meeting; the presentation was offered as a community engagement and fundraising update.
