Council approves interim City Finance Clerk agreement with six-month review cap

The Soap Lake City Council on Jan. 27 approved an interim employment agreement for a temporary finance role, adopting several substantive changes to the draft contract.

After an initial motion was withdrawn, Councilmember Bryson moved and Councilmember Arnold seconded approval of a revised agreement that retitled the position to "Interim City Finance Clerk," struck the phrase "within next 12 months" from section 3.1, added a provision that the agreement will be reviewed at the second council meeting of each month with a six-month cap in section 4.1, and removed section 6 entirely. The motion carried unanimously.

Councilmembers stressed urgency in posting the permanent position following the vote. The Mayor was recorded as saying he will decide when the job is posted. The meeting minutes show the council emphasized getting the vacancy posted promptly and completing the ordinance amendment needed for the longer-term job structure.

The action implements a temporary employment arrangement and sets explicit review limits: city staff and council will revisit the interim appointment at regular council meetings with a hard cap of six months unless the council takes further action. No additional financial figures, candidate names or an effective start date for the interim agreement were specified in the minutes.
