At the Jan. 12 meeting the Asotin police representative (recorded as "Monte") reported that he is compiling year-end statistics and has handled six vicious-dog reports since Jan. 1, 2026. He also said Clarkston has had three drug-related overdoses and two resulting deaths, which he described as a growing concern for the area.
Monte said the department has completed background checks for a reserve officer candidate and has scheduled an interview with the safety committee; another person has expressed interest in a reserve position. The department also contacted CJ at WDOT to pursue replacing the flashing yellow light at Washington and 1st Street. Council received the update but took no formal action during the meeting.
