Jackson County Board of Supervisors opened a public hearing at 9:00 a.m. June 23 on a petition to vacate a portion of 133rd Avenue in Maquoketa and to determine the disposition of a bridge on that segment. Engineer Jayden Scheckel reviewed the petition and the options before the board.
The board recorded that no public comments had been received. Supervisor Mike Steines moved to close the public hearing; Supervisor Nin Flagel seconded the motion and the board voted unanimously (Schwenker, Steines, Flagel) to close the hearing. After discussion, Steines moved and Flagel seconded to table any action on the vacation of the road and on disposition of the bridge; that motion also passed unanimously.
The tabling means the county will postpone any formal decision on vacating the roadway or disposing of the bridge until a future meeting when the board can consider additional information or recommendations from county staff. No public testimony was entered into the record at the June 23 hearing.
