Smith summarized the numbers: "In this election, there were actually 237 write in votes," and she later reported, "There were 433 absentees. Of that, 427 of the 433 were counted." She said 2,350 voters cast ballots on election day (1,433 Republican, 907 Democratic) and only two absentee ballots arrived late and were not counted under Iowa law. Smith told the board the auditor's office had purchased a new TENIX system to replace laptops and that the office planned to apply remaining funds to pay further toward the system.
The board moved to approve and sign the official state abstract and canvas and to forward paperwork to the Iowa Secretary of State and political parties; the motion carried.
