Board honors Linda A. Bailey and Jacqueline Hardy Ricks for decades of Head Start service

At its July 2 meeting the Surry County Board of Supervisors presented resolutions honoring two longtime local Head Start staff: Linda A. Bailey and Jacqueline Hardy Ricks. Dr. Elliott read biographical summaries for each honoree and the board invited the honorees and representatives of the Improvement Association to receive the resolutions and photographs.
Linda A. Bailey, who the resolution says served 36 years with the Improvement Association Head Start program and held multiple community roles including service on the Board of Equalization, told the board: "I wanna thank God, that I had the opportunity to serve and working at the improvement association for 36 years." Jacqueline Hardy Ricks, introduced as a 35-year Head Start teacher and member of the Virginia Head Start Association board, said she began serving children in homes before a school building was available and thanked the board and the community for support.
Both resolutions noted the honorees’ impact across Surry and neighboring Southside localities and directed that originals be delivered to the recipients and copies retained in county records.
