The council debated and then voted on an ordinance that would amend Chapter 2.10 of the Soap Lake Municipal Code to change classification and treatment of department heads. Councilmember Gorman moved to accept the ordinance, but the motion failed when Councilmembers Bryson, Arnold and Carson voted Nay.
No amendment or compromise was recorded on the floor and councilmembers who opposed the ordinance did not publicly register substitute language during the meeting. The failed motion leaves current SLMC Chapter 2.10 in place; councilmembers asked for further review on related staffing items later in the meeting.
