Merced County to roll out open‑access MAT clinics and mobile teams in three‑wave SUD expansion

Merced County told the planning council it will expand substance-use disorder (SUD) services in three waves from July 2026 through June 2029, funded in part by Proposition 1 allocations.
Sharon Jones outlined an approach that begins with open-access medication-assisted treatment (MAT) clinics offering same-day access to buprenorphine, methadone and naltrexone, plus distribution of naloxone kits and testing strips. "Open-Access MAT clinics will provide same-day access to buprenorphine, methadone, and naltrexone, walk-in services, and Naloxone kits and testing strips distributed by CSU," Jones said, describing a harm-reduction model with no abstinence requirement.
Later waves will introduce targeted outreach and a mobile crisis response team (MCRT) expansion (including 24-hour follow-up for overdose survivors) in July 2027 and mobile field-based integrated teams and a field MAT van in July 2028. BHRS staff said the effort will include partnerships with Mercy Medical and Los Banos Memorial Hospital and will add 24/7 peer support and dual-diagnosis specialists for co-occurring disorders.
