Public works reports progress on RedTown resurfacing; 1st Street paving out of spec

The Supervisor reported crews are preparing for Labor Day and continuing the RedTown initiative, a roughly 10-mile road resurfacing effort that includes pulverization and a later fog seal.
"The RedTown initiative, that's the 10 miles of road resurfacing," the Supervisor said, adding that Sierra Santa Fe is scheduled to perform resurfacing about Sept. 8 with a subsequent fog-seal pass. He said 1st Street has areas out of spec; the current proposal is to grind portions of two lanes and revert to one lane, while a contractor (Mason) proposed resurfacing the whole stretch if extensive work is needed. Staff are awaiting contractor proposals before deciding the specific repair approach.
The report closed with appreciation for crews and a reminder that deferred maintenance will eventually require additional spending.
