Council approves split of bargaining units after state law change

Chief Stegall explained the change: "last legislative session ... senate bill 50 40 was adopted and ... it redefined the population threshold for commission law enforcement officers to be considered [for] interest arbitration," and that the city must split the units because some members in the prior combined unit are not eligible for interest arbitration. Chief Stegall said he consulted PERK (and Teamsters guidance) and does not foresee major issues beyond having to ratify and later negotiate two separate contracts.
The Chair called for and received a motion to approve the language; the council voted in favor.
