Resident Diantha urges native-plant landscaping and library update

Diantha, who signed up to speak during public comment, urged the council to preserve volunteer plantings and to adopt native landscaping practices at the library and waterfront. She said volunteers planted white flowers near the dock and asked maintenance crews to avoid removing them and instead consider training from a native-plant group to select low-water, pollinator-friendly species.
"I would suggest getting someone from the native plant society to give you guys some training in what makes a good plant around here," Diantha said, noting that native plants save water and labor. She added that Joanne Rucker had donated trees to the library and urged council support for plantings that require less upkeep.
The comment also requested an update on a library plan mentioned by staff; the speaker asked that the council allow time to report on the program that had been discussed with a regional partner.
