Facing a priority to fill senior administrative staff, the Soap Lake City Council on Dec. 17 approved a job description for a City Administrator/Finance Director and deferred the Senior Planner and Assistant Planner/Code Enforcement descriptions pending union review.
Councilmember Carson moved to approve the City Administrator/Finance Director job description and to table the other two positions until union representatives could review the changes; Councilmember Bryson seconded. According to the minutes, the motion passed with Councilmembers Carlson and Gorman recorded as voting "nay." Mayor Sharp said he would post the job "ASAP."
Council discussion noted the urgency to fill the administrator/finance role and whether planning services should be staffed in-house or contracted; the council decided to proceed with the administrator position while allowing the union time to consider planner reclassifications.
