Williamstown commission trims draft town-plan survey, seeks simpler format to boost response

Chair Rich Turner led a page-by-page review of the draft Williamstown Town Plan survey and urged commissioners to make it shorter and easier to complete. "Too many choices. Need to simplify, people are going to look at this and decide not to bother with it," Turner said. Commissioners suggested removing or consolidating items on trails and parks, trimming job-opportunity questions, striking the 'cluster development' option from housing types, and adding open-response boxes for special natural places.
The commission also discussed logistics for distributing and collecting surveys: print copies at the Town Office and handouts at local businesses, a drop-off at the Town Office and Library, postings on the Front Porch forum, and outreach at town events. David Traczyk recommended adding contact information on the survey so residents know where to send completed forms and who to contact with questions; commissioners confirmed a public hearing will be part of the plan-adoption process.
