District reports 57% drop in recorded incidents in SSDS report; board accepts report

The Vernon Township School District presented its 2025‑26 Student Safety Data System (SSDS) report and the board voted to accept and authorize submission to the State Department of Education.
The superintendent told the board the district logged 316 incidents across all buildings from January 1 through June 30, 2026, down from 727 the prior year — a decline of roughly 57%. Restraint and seclusion incidents fell from 68 to 45 (about 34% decrease). The district completed 55 staff trainings and 83 prevention programs — increases of about 25% compared with the prior year. Administration attributed the improvements to increased prevention programming and staff efforts and recommended the board accept and file the report as required by statute.
Board members congratulated staff and asked for follow‑up details on programs flagged in the report; administration said the new director of school counseling will follow up on programmatic details.
