The Bryan City Council unanimously approved an interlocal agreement to share the Central Square computer‑aided dispatch (CAD) platform and authorized purchase of the vendor's flagship CAD system.
CIO Craig Kraus explained the City's existing dispatch software—installed in 2003—has reached end of life and lacks vendor support. He said the Central Square platform is widely used and provides scalability for multi‑agency dispatching, improved GIS and mapping integration and enhanced paging and unit‑assignment features. "This newer platform is fully supported... It does come with security patches and feature enhancements," Kraus said.
City staff presented a total implementation and early support cost of $1,304,606; reimbursements from partnering Emergency Services Districts and Brazos County reduce Bryan's net share. Council discussed transition timing and system redundancy during cutover; Kraus said the plan is to run both systems in parallel and execute a single cutover to avoid interrupting 911 dispatch operations. The council approved the ILA and the software purchase by unanimous vote.
