Finance Director Brett Baltazar presented the draft FY2026 budget on April 8, saying staff and committees worked through departmental needs and supplemental requests following a February budget retreat. The budget highlights included holding the property tax rate, expected sales tax growth, anticipated reductions in gravel pit revenue, removal of wildland revenues and related expenses, Rocky Mountain Power (RMP) utility increases, an election year, an increase in the DCSO contract, and planned COLA/merit and benefits adjustments.
Council discussed several supplemental requests: a $50,000 side-by-side purchase for the South Weber City Fire Department (Fire Chief Tolman is investigating grants), with Councilwoman Angie Petty proposing splitting the cost as $25,000 in FY2026 and $25,000 in FY2027; Councilman Blair Halverson suggested phasing a fire station remodel. Other items discussed included hiring a code enforcement officer and researching a city automation system. The council also discussed setting aside $10,000 for the Family Activity Center HVAC, with Halverson noting the amount is likely insufficient but acknowledging departmental funding limits.
