The council voted to adopt Ordinance 25-12, amending Title 9 of the city code to add a Wildland-Urban Interface chapter and adopt the Wasatch Urban Interface sensitive lands hazard map. Planning staff said the action is necessary to ensure the city is compliant with new state requirements that take effect Jan. 1.
Staff acknowledged several outstanding questions about the state rule’s application to South Ogden — including how to define "substantial remodeling" and which areas qualify — and said county and state agencies are handling mapping and fee questions. "We have more questions than answers," the staff member said, urging adoption now so the city remains eligible for state and federal response and reimbursement if a wildfire incident requires outside resources.
Council members asked for clarifications to be brought back as the state provides guidance. The ordinance passed on a roll-call vote.
