Council moves to align private pool side setbacks with 6-foot rear setback

City staff presented the first portion of Ordinance 26-01 to align private swimming-pool side setbacks with the six-foot rear setback the council adopted last year.
Alika, the staff presenter, told the council the change responds to a resident request and the planning commission recommended the update after a Dec. 11 public hearing with no speakers. She explained the relationship between pool edge, required fencing and the property line under current building code: “and I think we landed on 6 feet for that rear setback.” The change is procedural—bringing the side setback into parity with the previously adopted rear setback—and does not alter the city’s building-code fencing and safety-cover requirements.
Council members asked for clarifications on fence height and where the required clearance is measured. Staff said fence-height and pool-safety-cover options are controlled by building-code rules; the ordinance change preserves those safety obligations and only adjusts the zoning/setback dimension. The council advanced the ordinance for adoption as part of Ordinance 26-01.
