Council hears request to expand Central Park stage and help with event storage
Summary
The Country Fair Days Committee asked the council to add 12 feet to the existing Central Park stage to avoid renting a temporary stage for $3,500 annually; estimated concrete for the addition would cost about $5,000. Councilwoman Angie Petty reported that the Country Fair Days Committee has rented a temporary stage each year "which costs $3,500 per year" and asked whether the city would add an additional 12 feet to the existing stage. She said the committee estimates "the concrete cost will be $5,000" and that sprinklers may need relocation. The committee is seeking sponsors and donations to offset costs and also requested storage for metal booth frames; staff noted challenges if committees need 24/7 after-hours access to storage at the new Public Works Complex.
Council directed staff to explore alternative storage locations and access arrangements and discussed whether the committee could store items at the new Public Works Complex. The committee also requested council help serving at the Monday Night Dinner. No funding decision was made at the meeting.
