Florence accepts two resignations, hires dispatcher and authorizes land purchase for new water well

The board entered executive session at 6:40 p.m. to discuss personnel matters in the police department and pending land acquisition. In executive session the board accepted the resignation of dispatcher Ashten George and the resignation of Officer Antwan Gibson, both effective June 15, 2026; the minutes record unanimous aye votes for both motions.
Also in executive session the board voted to hire McKenzie Holbrook as a full-time dispatcher at $16.00 per hour, with a start date of July 2, 2026, contingent on a successful background check and drug and alcohol testing. Separately, the board authorized and directed Mayor Trey Gunn to execute documents necessary to purchase 0.74 acres from First Baptist Church Florence, MS, for construction of a new water well; that motion carried with recorded aye votes from all aldermen. The board returned to open session at 6:50 p.m. and adjourned at 6:51 p.m.
