Save Lusby Inc. used the public-comment period to highlight an ongoing legal dispute over a proposed Lusby Villas development. Sean Maguire, speaking for Save Lusby, described the project as a more-than-200-unit apartment complex on roughly 30 acres and said Planning & Zoning approved the project on a 4-3 vote.
Maguire said Save Lusby filed an appeal of the Planning & Zoning decision, that an attempt to have the appeal dismissed was denied in court, and urged the community to mobilize to stop what he described as overdevelopment of Lusby. "We do have the opportunity to stop this egregious overdevelopment of the town of Lusby," Maguire said.
Commissioners did not act on the project during the zoning-ordinance hearing; the comments were part of the public-comment record. The BOCC's zoning changes that evening included procedural changes and the CED framework, which speakers argued could have bearing on large projects if developers pursue a CED pathway.
What happens next: The appellate process for the Lusby Villas appeal will proceed through the courts; Save Lusby encouraged residents to consult its website for updates and to participate in public review when the project comes before the BOCC or other review bodies.
