Utility firm says WindJoyce transmission project is ~85% complete; poles replaced to harden grid

Derek Bond, CEO of Art Power Light, briefed the council on the WindJoyce pole-replacement project designed to harden the grid and add capacity. Bond said the project replaced 19 wooden transmission poles with steel and upgraded 26 distribution poles to taller wooden poles to meet updated National Electrical Code requirements; he said the transmission work is complete and the job is roughly 85% finished overall.
Bond explained the change from wood to steel improves reliability for major transmission lines and increases lifecycle expectancy. He said the distribution component likely concludes within weeks and that the contractor will follow with cleanup and restoration activities. "To date we've completed 85% of the project," Bond said, and staff set a target to finish distribution work by May, weather permitting.
