Commissioners back grant application to plan restoration of historic courthouse

Coryell County's commissioners voted to approve Resolution CC26-02 supporting a planning grant application to the Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Program. The resolution authorizes the county to pursue planning funds that would convert the master plan into construction documents, including restoration of floors, doors and windows and paint-analysis work described in the master plan.
The County Judge described the submission process and local match considerations: "The final draft was submitted March 13, and have not heard anything, back from the Texas Historic Commission," the County Judge said, adding that planning-phase matches are typically shared (judge referenced 50/50 or other ratios). Commissioners approved the resolution on a motion by Commissioner Basham with a second from Commissioner Taylor.
If awarded, planning funds would be used to procure engineering and architectural services and generate the drawings and specifications needed for restoration. The judge noted planning grants reduce the county's later construction match because planning is an eligible pre-construction expense under many preservation programs.
