The County Judge told the court the declaration was issued to coordinate county support outside existing interlocal agreements and to enable a rapid response: "I issued the local disaster as part of a cooperative effort," the County Judge said, adding that fires were "still smoldering" and that the county needed the declaration to continue planning and recovery operations. Commissioners voted to extend the declaration by voice; the motion carried with 'ayes.'
The judge also said Gatesville had its own declaration and that the county action was intended to complement the city's efforts. No additional county funding or new mutual-aid commitments were specified during the vote; the extension preserves the authority to deploy county equipment and staff where needed while recovery continues.
