Mayor Trey Gunn opened the July 7 meeting and presented retiring Captain David H. Cannon with a lifetime service award.
On a motion by Alderman Brent Sistrunk, seconded by Alderman Brian Grantham, the board unanimously approved a motion—citing Section 45-9-191 of the Mississippi Code of 1972—to set the value of a formerly city-issued sidearm (Glock 45, Serial # BKDW585) at $1.00 and implement David H. Cannon’s offer to purchase it for that amount. The motion was recorded as carried by unanimous vote.
The action was taken during regular session and recorded on the meeting minutes; the retirement and property disposition were later reflected among executive-session personnel actions that accepted Cannon’s resignation effective June 30, 2026.
