NAACP accepts Black History Month proclamation; sheriff’s office employee honored

The Board of County Commissioners read a proclamation recognizing February 2025 as Black History Month and presented it to NAACP leaders who accepted on behalf of the community.
"It's my honor on behalf of NAACP Calvert to receive the proclamation for Black History Month," Deborah Harris, president of the Calvert County NAACP, told commissioners. Harris invited the board and community to two upcoming events: a Feb. 15 program with the American Legion post in Prince Frederick and a March 9 program with VFW and American Legion posts honoring centenarian World War II veterans.
The board also recognized Dean Hamilton of the Calvert County Sheriff's Office as December 2024 Employee of the Month for his handling of civil-process work, facility safety observations and morale-building efforts. In remarks, Hamilton described his path through dispatch and animal-control assignments and said he values the opportunity to serve his community. County and sheriff's office leaders and colleagues praised Hamilton before photos and a coin presentation.
