Florence board approves SRO and Taser-instructor training for two officers

The Florence mayor and board unanimously approved two police training requests at their April 7 meeting after a recommendation from Chief Burns. The board voted to send Officer Daniel McCue to the Mississippi Association School Resource Officers conference in Biloxi, July 12–16, 2026; the Rankin County School District will pay McCue’s registration fee and the city will cover other allowable costs under state law.
The board also approved Officer Brenna Alexander’s attendance at Axon Taser Instructor Training April 27–28, 2026, at the Co-Lin campus in Simpson County. The city agreed to pay the $895 registration fee and other related costs as allowed by state statute. The motion to send McCue was made by Alderman Brent Sistrunk and seconded by Alderman Kyle Martin; the motion to send Alexander was made by Alderman Kyle Martin and seconded by Alderman Brent Sistrunk. Both motions carried by unanimous vote.
