Resident urges city to prioritize employment supports for people with disabilities

"People with disabilities need some extra thought and accommodation, but the biggest one that I haven't heard mentioning here yet [is] employment," Hug said during public comment, adding that many employers simply "turn you away" and do not consider applicants with certain disabilities or criminal records.
Committee members responded by suggesting the city coordinate with workforce partners. The Chair and others recommended inviting the Texas Workforce Commission and the Department of Aging and Disability Services (referenced in the meeting) to explain programs for people 18–24, GED tutoring supports, and employer engagement strategies.
Pat (city staff) said the issue aligns with several of the committee's pillars and that staff would explore referrals and add related items to a future agenda so the committee can identify potential local actions or outreach.
The committee did not adopt a formal motion on the subject during this meeting but agreed to capture the idea for follow-up.
