Fire Chief John Renfrew updated the Selectboard on efforts to acquire a 1‑ton utility/rapid response vehicle and reported he has been monitoring the West Newbury fire station and assessing its condition. Renfrew said one new firefighting volunteer has begun training and a second possible volunteer may be in prospect.
Responding to board questions, Renfrew advised waiting until summer to seek buyers for the department's old fire trucks, noting that new fire trucks are not subject to the same long delivery delays as highway trucks. Chair Susan Culp confirmed that Marvin Harrison will likely convene the Fire Department Steering Committee to further discuss the West Newbury station.
