County public health reports low hantavirus risk, monitoring LTBI and tickborne diseases

Marshall County Public Health reported that since the previous meeting it has had zero new latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) patients and is currently monitoring four LTBI patients. Staff said they are following hantavirus and Andes virus updates from the Centers for Disease Control and Iowa HHS and that current public-health risk remains low per the CDC HAN alert.
The department also noted two communicable diseases reported through IDSS since the last meeting—one case of alpha-gal syndrome and one case of Ehrlichiosis—and said it is seeing increases in tickborne diseases and will add education materials to its social media channels. The report additionally referenced 10 cases and three deaths associated with a Hondius outbreak and said Iowa does not expect to receive cruise ship patients related to that event.
