Grand Prairie marked the completion of Alice Court with a ribbon-cutting that officials said capped a collaborative effort among the city, Dallas County and community partners to provide affordable homeownership opportunities.
A reporter said the development represents more than three years of planning and financing and that six families have already moved in; the report added there are contracts on the remaining homes. The segment identified Lupe Cabello as one of the new residents who moved his family into Alice Court.
City staff described the projects site work including pipes, drainage systems and streets as having been completed by "city hands" and said the housing and neighborhood services department supervised construction and completed the homes in five months. Officials and speakers at the event urged other jurisdictions to consider similar housing strategies.
Each house was described as having three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a two-car garage, with Alice Court located just south of downtown and close to local schools and services. The reporter directed listeners to gptx.org for more information about city housing and neighborhood services programs.
