City staff and economic-development presenters described several private investments and redevelopment prospects in and near District 5.
A speaker said Daisy Brand purchased a four-acre site and plans a roughly 40,000-square-foot research and innovation center, with about 30 jobs at the facility. "They're investing $30,000,000 into these," the council member said when introducing the project. Staff also described an Anderson Windows consolidation and a reported $30 million investment in Garland.
Presenters highlighted a long-vacant, roughly 50,000-square-foot retail parcel that could be redeveloped with a mix of bank, pad sites and new retail, and said new occupancy should reduce illegal vending in nearby parking lots. Staff urged residents to report vendors via the city's online portal for enforcement follow-up.
Officials emphasized the city's active role in assembling property and courting developers at major gateways, including a 50–55 acre area near LBJ where the city controls parcels to recruit higher-quality development.
