Ionia County board opens meeting; local residents comment on candidacy and budget

Chairman Jack Shattuck called the Ionia County Board of Commissioners to order at 3:00 p.m. on Nov. 25, 2025, led the Pledge of Allegiance and opened the meeting after an invocation by Commissioner David Hodges. The board discussed and approved an amended agenda that added a resolution regarding a health insurance exemption; the motion to approve the agenda was moved by Commissioner Larry Tiejema and carried.
During the first public‑comment period, Katie DeBoer addressed the board to comment on her candidacy for the Michigan State Senate. Tom Walker offered remarks related to the county budget. The board then approved the consent calendar by unanimous consent and proceeded to scheduled business.
