Board schedules special meeting after debate over Kaliseum director stipend and fees

The Kalkaska County Board of Commissioners approved multiple Kaliseum-related motions on Aug. 20, including a $2 increase to all non-resident day passes effective Aug. 21 and lease approvals for DALMAC, MIHA, KAHA and Sky Dance Studio. The board also approved event and marketing contracts including a PJS Promotions contract and a $500 annual wall-ad agreement with Almighty Marketing.
Discussion over a proposed stipend for the Kaliseum Director proved more contentious. Commissioner David Comai said he understood "inability to allow grants/gifts for wages, but the funds should be allowed to go toward the budget." Administrator/CFO Patrick Whiteford urged a job-description and wage-scale review before making wage adjustments. The board agreed to hold a Special Meeting at 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 25 to address the stipend and a separate closed-session property-sale review.
