The Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Dec. 11 gave first reading approval to a Mobile Food Vendors ordinance that establishes an application, fee and permitting process for food trucks operating in the city. Mayor Terry F. Bell and Building Official Brent Beshires said the draft builds on an informal seven‑item list the city has used for several years and adapts the City of Dyersburg’s ordinance language to set an enforceable permitting standard.
Building Official Brent Beshires told the board "for the last seven to eight years, they have had a list of seven items for the food truck vendors to abide by to operate in the city. There has been no application or fee locally, so there is no way of tracking if the business is licensed." Ald. Keith Smith moved to approve the ordinance on first reading with clarifications — adding 'WTN State Fair' to item 9‑617 and inserting the missing word 'permission' in section 9‑607 item 2 — and Ald. Donna R. Butler seconded. On a roll call vote the ayes were Donna Butler, Buel Maness, Jason Rhodes and Keith Smith; Mark A. Barber and Michael Phelps were absent. The board set the second reading for the next regular meeting.
