Henderson officials report infrastructure work, completed fire‑station door project and upcoming community events

City public‑works and utilities staff updated the board Nov. 13 on several ongoing projects and community events.
Utility Director Darryl Green said crews are working on grant projects including the replacement of the Fourth Street pumping station and sludge cleanup at the East Lagoon. Fire Chief Doug Acred reported a door replacement project was completed that afternoon. Mayor Terry F. Bell said sidewalk work is under way at Mill Street, Crook Avenue and White Avenue, and that the city has installed one of the new 988 suicide‑prevention signs; Ald. Mark A. Barber asked Public Works Director Carter Scales to photograph signs as they are installed so he can send images to the state.
Officials also announced the City Employee Christmas Lunch on Dec. 4 (11:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m.) and the Fire Department Christmas dinner on Dec. 18 (6–8 p.m.). Chief Gary Davidson said the police department's 'Christmas with a Cop' shopping will be Nov. 18 and the event is scheduled for Dec. 8; he noted increased participation and fewer donations this year.
